The plan lies to you on the exact day it comes due

First runs of the simulator's rework engine: the 90% plateau, crunch that manufactures 24 extra days, and a spec falsified within ten minutes.

First observations from the v0.1 engine harness. Default parameters are all assumed placeholders — the ratios are the story, not the absolute values. The naive plan says 50 days.

Three things the numbers say

  1. The plan lies to you on the exact day it comes due. Committing to the 50-day plan, the project reads "90% done" on day 49 — right on schedule — then takes 37 more days. 43% of the whole project happens inside the plateau the dashboard can't see.
  2. The deadline you set changes how long the project takes. Same team, same work: deadline 25 finishes day 97; deadline 100 finishes day 73. Crunch generated 24 extra days out of pure rework. And the "safe" move is also a lever with a floor: 75 and 100 produce identical outcomes because pressure never engages.
  3. A test falsified the spec on day one. The spec claimed perceived progress must visibly regress; the model proved it only stalls — with constant-rate discovery, completion always keeps pace with discovery because discovered work recycles through completion at a lag. Regression requires discovery acceleration (the testing-phase burst), which is deferred scope. I wrote a pinning test for the current behavior instead. My acceptance suite caught my spec overclaiming within ten minutes of the engine existing.
